GPS tracks Georgia
Why choose the Ountravela app to explore Georgia?
Planning a road trip through the Caucasus Mountains requires careful logistics. Gone are the days when you had to juggle three different apps and outdated GPX files. We designed the Ountravela app to bring together everything an independent traveler needs on the go. It’s the perfect digital tool to complement our EXPLORE GEORGIA print guide or to travel light with just your smartphone or tablet.
You can now access the GPS tracks for all 28 trails in the EXPLORE GEORGIA guide, as well as all points of interest, directly within the Ountravela app.
- 📍 Accuracy: View each route and point of interest down to the meter on detailed maps in the Ountravela app.
- 🗺️ 3D Maps: Explore Georgia’s terrain as if you were there, thanks to high-resolution 3D mapping.
- 🚙 GPS Tracking: Take advantage of real-time GPS tracking to navigate the 28 routes without ever getting lost.
- 📸 Enhanced text and photo content: View detailed photos of technical sections and read the authors’ personal comments.
- 🔄 Live updates and information: Get last-minute tips from authors and real-time feedback from the travel community to stay up to date on trail conditions. Includes 2 years of updates.
- 🚫 100% accessible offline: Download all your data and maps to your smartphone or tablet for offline use.

How do GPS tracks work?
Access to your itineraries is instant and synchronized. Once your order has been confirmed, you can view the GPS tracks:
On your phone or tablet: Download the Ountravela app for iOS or Android and access GPS tracks 100% offline. Be sure to download your maps in advance.
On your computer: Log in to app.ountravela.com to conveniently plan your itinerary on a large screen before you leave. Please note that web access on a computer requires an internet connection.
File Sharing: You can enable access on up to 2 devices (for example, your computer for trip planning and your phone during your trip).
Travel with peace of mind thanks to real-time updates
In the high mountains, nature reigns supreme. A trail that is passable in June may be blocked in July by a rockslide, a mudslide, or a bridge washed away by a river flood. That’s where the Ountravela app really sets itself apart from a standard GPX file.
Your purchase includes 2 years of map updates. In addition, you have access to a collaborative news feed: the travel community and we share the latest information in real time on trail conditions, pass openings, and weather conditions. You can travel with peace of mind, armed with up-to-date and verified information.
Our readers’ opinion
Why are the app and the guide inseparable?
The Ountravela app is your compass on the slopes: it pinpoints your location down to the meter and lets you find all of our points of interest. However, what you see on a screen doesn’t prepare you for the cultural and logistical realities of Georgia.
The EXPLORE GEORGIA guide (available in print or as an ebook) is the real backbone of your trip. It contains:
- The Road Trip Toolkit: Our tips for driving on Georgian backroads, how to manage your fuel range, drinking water, road conditions, essential gear, and more.
- Cultural Highlights: Georgian table manners, the country’s history, traditions, and the basics of the language to help you communicate with locals.
- Safety: Emergency numbers, managing health at high altitudes, and essential administrative procedures (border zone permits).

Frequently asked questions
Is there a free trial version?
Yes! You can try the app for free by creating an account in the Ountravela app or at app.ountravela.com. In the Store/Catalog tab, you'll find a free sample of the Explore Georgia guide, including its first complete route, so you can test all the premium features.
💡 Here's a little extra tip: Try out 3D mode with the high-resolution satellite map background… it's a truly magical experience! ✨
Can I download GPS tracks in GPX format?
No, the data is not provided as standalone .gpx or .kml files and cannot be transferred to a Garmin, OsmAnd, or Gaia GPS device.
It's a conscious choice. Our itineraries are infinitely richer than a simple GPX file. On average, the Ountravela app includes:
- 🗺️ 8 types of routes per trail: variations, alternatives, and hiking trails to suit your vehicle and your preferences.
- 📍 60 types of points of interest: Specific camping spots, must-see viewpoints, and locations of fords and difficult sections.
- 📸 Photos of critical sections: Check the condition of bridges or tricky sections before you head out.
- ❄️ Real-time updates: Weather alerts, closed trails, or mountain passes still covered in snow.
- 💬 Community Comments: A real-time feedback system that updates as soon as you connect with someone, so you can get feedback from other OunTravela travelers.
A simple .gpx file can't contain all of that. The app is the only way to guarantee you reliable data in a rapidly changing environment, while protecting our research from widespread sharing. The built-in GPS tracking mode perfectly replaces your usual navigation and works 100% offline. Don’t forget to download your maps before you set off!
Does the app work entirely without an internet connection?
Yes, 100%! The OunTravela mobile app (available on iOS and Android) was specifically designed for areas with no cell service and remote trails where there is no cell network.
To enjoy it while you're out in the mountains, there's just one golden rule: download your map backgrounds in advance, when you have a good Wi-Fi connection.
Here's how it works:
- 💾 Automatic local storage: As soon as you activate your products on your smartphone or tablet, GPS tracks, points of interest, and the eBook are instantly downloaded to your device.
- 🗺️ Choosing base maps: You can download different types of maps for offline use (identified by the small "Offline" logo on the map).
- 🛰️ 3D satellite maps: High-resolution satellite images are, of course, available offline. Be aware, however, that these image files are very detailed and therefore take up more storage space.
One thing to keep in mind: The web version (app.ountravela.com) is a fantastic tool for comfortably planning your road trip on a large screen from your computer at home. However, it requires an active internet connection and does not allow you to view the eBook or your tracks offline while out in the field. For the track, use only the mobile app!
If I sign out of one device, can I sign in again on a new device?
No. Disconnecting a device does not release or revoke access. That's why it's important to choose the two devices that best suit your needs right from the start. We recommend using a large screen (computer or tablet) to plan your trip and your phone while you're traveling.
How long will I have access to updates?
Your purchase includes lifetime access to the app and all its features, as well as two full years of updates to GPS track files and e-books. After this 2-year period, your app will continue to work perfectly with the most recent data you've downloaded.
