This border permit allows you to visit only the border area of the Naryn region in Kyrgyzstan (Zone 3 on the map above). Under no circumstances does it give you the right to cross the border into a neighboring country. This permit is essential for traveling along Routes 19 and 20 in our Explore Kyrgyzstan travel guide.

- Bulk orders are printed on a single document. Group members will therefore be required to travel together during inspections.

- Pickup location: Permits are delivered to the front desk at Kezgin Guesthouse in Naryn. Delivery to any other address is not possible.
- Validity: The permit is valid for 1 month from the date of entry into the border zone.
- Cancellation: Please note that in the event of a cancellation, no refunds will be issued.

What is a border permit?
Certain border areas are subject to strict regulations governing the movement of people, particularly foreigners. If you wish to visit these areas, it is essential to apply for a permit in advance. There are five restricted zones.
- Chuy region: Chong-Kemin valley
- Issyk-Kul region: Karkyra, Sary-Jaz, Engilchek, Khan-Tengri national park, Sarychat-Ertash reserve, Ak-Shyrak and Karasay checkpoint
- Naryn region: Ak Say valley, Kol-Suu lake, Kok-Kiya canyon, Chatyr-Kul lake and Torugart checkpoint
- Osh region: Trans-Alay range (Lenin peak)
- Batken region: Kadamjai, Leylek and Batken districts
You can order a permit for one or more zones. To keep things simple, we only sell the 5-zone permit and the 1-zone permit for Lake Kol Suu, both available on this page.
Which trails in Explore Kyrgyzstan require a border permit?
A border permit is required to access trails 3, 11, 12, 13, 19, 20, 24, 25, and 27 in our Explore Kyrgyzstan travel guide . The 1-zone permit provides access to Kel-Suu Lake (Route 20) and the Kok-Kiya Canyon (Route 19), among other places. If you don't need all the categories, this license is definitely a better option because it's cheaper and faster to get! Especially as you can easily pick it up in Naryn (on the road between Bishkek and Lake Kel-Suu).
How far in advance do I need to order the border permit?
The process of obtaining the permit takes 6 business days. Please note that weekends and public holidays must be deducted from working days, as the administration is closed. Please check the dates of public holidays by clicking here. If you order your permit after 12pm (Kyrgyzstan time), your application will not be processed until the next working day. In addition, please note that your permit will not be available until the 6th business day at 6:00 p.m. (Kyrgyzstan time), as that is when the authorities issue permits.
If you apply for your license several months in advance, we may not begin the process immediately, as depending on the year, the authorities may not accept applications submitted too far in advance. In that case, don't worry—we'll keep your file on hand and start the process as soon as the authorities allow it.
As soon as your license is ready, we'll keep it safe at the pickup location until you come to pick it up (there's no time limit).
How do I choose when to enter the border zone?
If you're not sure when you'll be entering the border zone, don't worry. The permit is valid for 1 month from the date you choose. You can enter the border zone at any time during the validity of your permit.
Is payment secure?
Payment is only possible online and in euros. Payment is secured via Stripe (VISA or MASTERCARD) or Paypal.
Where can I get my border permit?
By default, permits are delivered to the front desk of the Kezgin Guesthouse in Naryn.
Please note that it is not possible to have the license delivered to another city in Kyrgyzstan or outside the country.
Can you email me the permit?
No, we do not send any digital copies of the license via email or text message. You must travel with the original version of your driver's license. It will be checked at each checkpoint. Be sure to make copies in case you lose the original.
How long is the permit valid?
The permit is valid for 1 month from the date of entry into the border zone.
When will my border permit be ready?
As soon as your license is ready, you'll receive a confirmation email, and you can pick it up at the Kezgin Guesthouse in Naryn (we'll keep it safe until you arrive). Once you've obtained your permit, keep the original and make several copies, as you'll need to leave one at each military checkpoint. You can make photocopies at one of the many print shops in downtown Naryn. Your passport will also be required for verification at each checkpoint. Be sure to check that your name and passport number are correct on the permit.
What are the cancellation conditions?
In the event of a cancellation (for any reason), no refunds will be issued.
Do I need a border permit to enter or leave Kyrgyzstan by land?
The border permit sold on this page allows you to visit restricted areas located near the borders with China. IT DOES NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO CROSS A BORDER. The administrative procedures for crossing borders are updated regularly here. Please check with your embassy, depending on your nationality. If you wish to cross the Torugart border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and China, a border permit is required for travel from Kyrgyzstan to> China.
Is a border permit required for children?
