🏔️ Information about your Zone 1 Border Permit
This border permit allows you to visit only the border area of the Naryn region in Kyrgyzstan (Zone 3 on the map above). Under no circumstances does it give you the right to cross the border into a neighboring country. This permit is required to travel along Routes 18 and 19 in our Explore Kyrgyzstan travel guide.

Standard procedure: The process of obtaining the permit takes 6 business days. Please note that weekends, vacations, and holidays must be excluded from the number of business days, as government offices are closed. Please be sure to double-check and plan ahead for your request! Calendar
Expedited Service: The "Expedited" option allows you to receive your license faster—within 2 business days —for an additional €20 per license. Not available in 2026.
Attention groups: Grouped orders are edited on a single document. Group members will therefore be required to travel together during inspections.

Pickup location: Permits are delivered to the front desk at Kezgin Guesthouse in Naryn. Delivery to any other address is not possible.
Validity: The permit is valid for 1 month from the date of entry into the border zone.
Cancellation: Please note that in the event of a cancellation, no refund will be issued.

What is a border permit?
Certain border areas are subject to strict regulations governing the movement of people, particularly foreigners. If you wish to visit these areas, it is essential to apply for a permit in advance.
There are five restricted zones.
- Chuy region: Chong-Kemin valley
- Issyk-Kul region: Karkyra, Sary-Jaz, Engilchek, Khan-Tengri national park, Sarychat-Ertash reserve, Ak-Shyrak and Karasay checkpoint
- Naryn region: Ak Say valley, Kol-Suu lake, Kok-Kiya canyon, Chatyr-Kul lake and Torugart checkpoint
- Osh region: Trans-Alay range (Lenin peak)
- Batken region: Kadamjai, Leylek and Batken districts

Which trails in Explore Kyrgyzstan require a border permit?
A border permit is required to access trails 3, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 24 in our Explore Kyrgyzstan travel guide.
The 1 zone permit provides access to Lake Kel-Suu (trail 19) and Kok-Kiya Canyon (trail 18). If you don't need to have all the zones, this permit is probably more interesting because it's cheaper and quicker to obtain! Especially as you can easily pick it up in Naryn (on the road between Bishkek and Lake Kel-Suu).
How far in advance do I need to order the 1 zone border permit?
The procedure for obtaining a 1 zone permit takes 6 working days. Please note that weekends and public holidays must be deducted from working days, as the administration is closed. Please check the dates of public holidays by clicking here. You can order your permit up to 2 months in advance. This means that the permit will be available for up to 2 months at Kezgin guesthouse reception.
How do I choose when to enter the border zone?
If you're not sure when you'll be entering the border zone, don't worry. The permit is valid for 1 month from the date you choose. You can enter the border zone at any time during the validity of your permit.
Is payment secure?
Payment is only possible online and in euros. Payment is secured via Stripe (VISA or MASTERCARD) or Paypal. Sales are managed by the French company Rent2explore (by the founders of OunTravela Editions).
Where can I get my border permit?
Permits are delivered to Kezgin Guesthouse reception in Naryn. It's an address you can trust, open 24/7.
No delivery of the 1 zone permit is possible (only the 5 zone permit is available for delivery).
How long is the border permit valid?
The permit is valid for 1 month (from the date of entry into the border zone).
When will my border permit be ready?
As soon as your permit is ready, you'll receive a confirmation e-mail and can collect it from Kezgin Guesthouse in Naryn (it will be available for up to 2 months). Once you've obtained your permit, keep the original and make several copies, as you'll need to leave one at each military checkpoint. You can make photocopies at Naryn. Your passport will also be required for verification at each checkpoint. Check that your name and passport number are correct on the permit.
What are the cancellation conditions?
In the event of cancellation (for whatever reason), no refund is possible.
Do I need a border permit to enter or leave Kyrgyzstan by land?
The border permit sold on this page allows you to visit the restricted area of the Naryn region near the border with China. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DOES IT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO CROSS A BORDER. Border crossing formalities are updated regularly here. Please check with your embassy, depending on your nationality.
If you wish to cross the Torugart border post between Kyrgyzstan and China, a border permit is required in the direction of Kyrgyzstan --> China, but not in the other direction.
If you wish to cross the Kyzyl Art border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, without visiting restricted zone 4 (see map), then you do not need a border permit. However, you will need a GBAO permit and a special authorization.
Is a border permit mandatory for children?
Yes, a border permit is mandatory for children of all ages.
