🏔️ Information about your border permit
This permit allows you to visit all border areas of Kyrgyzstan (except Batken and Leylek districts). It is not a visa and does not authorize you to cross the border into a neighboring country. This permit is essential to cover tracks 3, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 24 in our travel guide . Explore Kyrgyzstan.
⏱️ Delivery times and options
Standard administrative processing time is 12 working days maximum (8 to 12 working days).
Note: Weekends and public holidays do not count towards this deadline, as the administration is closed. Be sure to anticipate your request!
Option [Urgent]: For travelers in a hurry, receive your permit in a maximum of 5 working days (3 to 5 working days), with a surcharge of €15 per permit.
- Guarantee: please note that standard processing time is 8 to 12 working days, and urgent processing time is 3 to 5 working days. Although we cannot specify the exact date of availability in advance, we guarantee that the maximum lead time will be respected (either 12 or 5 working days, depending on the option chosen).
- Attention groups: Grouped orders are edited on a single document. Group members must therefore travel together when checking in.
📍 Delivery and Validity
Pick-up point: Your permit will be available at the OVOP (One Village One Product) souvenir store in Bishkek (140 Toktogul Street). No deliveries outside this address are possible at the moment.
Validity: The permit is valid for 1 month from the date of entry indicated on the form.
Cancellation: Once the procedure has begun, no refunds are possible.

What is a border permit?
Certain border areas are subject to strict regulations governing the movement of people, particularly foreigners. If you wish to visit these areas, it is essential to apply for a permit in advance.
There are five restricted zones.
- Chuy region: Chong-Kemin valley
- Issyk-Kul region: Karkyra, Sary-Jaz, Engilchek, Khan-Tengri national park, Sarychat-Ertash reserve, Ak-Shyrak and Karasay checkpoint
- Naryn region: Ak Say valley, Kol-Suu lake, Kok-Kiya canyon, Chatyr-Kul lake and Torugart checkpoint
- Osh region: Trans-Alay range (Lenin peak)
- Batken region: Kadamjai, Leylek and Batken districts
You can order a permit for one or more zones. For simplicity’s sake, we only sell the 5-zone permit and the 1-zone permit for Lake Kol Suu. Please note that the districts of Leilek and Batken are not included in the 5-zone permit.

How far in advance do I need to order the border permit?
The procedure for obtaining a permit takes a maximum of 12 working days. Please note that weekends and public holidays must be deducted from working days, as the administration is closed. Please check the dates of public holidays by clicking here. If you order your permit after 6pm (Kyrgyzstan time), your application will not be processed until the next working day. You should also be aware that your permit will only be available after a maximum of 12 working days from 6pm (Kyrgyzstan time ), as this is the time when the administration issues permits. Permits are usually ready within 8 to 12 working days.
How do I choose when to enter the border zone?
If you’re not sure when you’ll be entering the border zone, don’t worry. The permit is valid for 1 month from the date you choose. You can enter the border zone at any time during the validity of your permit.
Is payment secure?
Payment is only possible online and in euros. Payment is secured via Stripe (VISA or MASTERCARD) or Paypal.
Where can I get my border permit?
By default, permits are delivered to the OVOP warehouse in Bishkek. This is a trusted address, open 7 days a week between 9:00 and 20:00.
It is not possible to have the permit delivered outside Kyrgyzstan.
How long is the border permit valid?
The permit is valid for 1 month (from the date of entry into the border zone).
When will my border permit be ready?
As soon as your permit is ready, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail and can collect it from the OVOP souvenir store in Bishkek (it will be available for up to 4 months). Once you’ve obtained your permit, keep the original and make several copies, as you’ll need to leave one at each military checkpoint. You can make photocopies in one of the many print shops in downtown Bishkek. Your passport will also be required for verification at each checkpoint. Check that your name and passport number are correct on the permit.
What are the cancellation conditions?
In the event of cancellation (for whatever reason), no refund is possible.
Do I need a border permit to enter or leave Kyrgyzstan by land?
The border permit sold on this page allows you to visit restricted areas near the borders with China, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DOES IT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO CROSS A BORDER. Border crossing formalities are regularly updated here. Please check with your embassy, depending on your nationality.
If you wish to cross the Kyzyl Art border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, without visiting restricted zone 4 (see map), then you do not need a border permit. However, you will need a GBAO permit.
If you wish to cross the Torugart border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and China, a border permit is required in the direction Kyrgyzstan –> China.
Is a border permit mandatory for children?

Très bonne réception chambre propre. Aucun problème. Nous avons aussi récupéré le Toyota loué à Almaz. nous avons déjà sillonné sur les pistes 6,7 et 8. Quelques modifications que j’ai notées suite à d’importantes pluie. Des passages à Gué en plus. Je te ferai part de toutes les modifications à mon retour. Nous restons ici un mois entier.
