- This border permit allows you to visit all border areas of Kyrgyzstan (except Batken and Leylek districts). Under no circumstances does it give you the right to cross a border.
- This permit gives access to routes 3, 11, 12, 18, 19 and 24 of our Explore Kyrgyzstan travel guide.
- The permit process takes 9 working days. Please note that weekends, vacations and public holidays must be deducted from the working days, as the administration is closed. Please check carefully.
- The [Urgent] option allows you to get it faster, within 5 working days (+25 € / permit). This option is unavailable until further notice. Please do not check the urgent option.
- Please note that grouped orders are printed on a single document. Group members will therefore be forced to travel together.
- By default, permits are delivered to the Salut hotel reception in Bishkek. With the “other address” option and for an additional €15, you can have the permit delivered to an address of your choice in the cities of Bishkek, Osh, Naryn, Karakol and Kochkor. Allow 2 working days for delivery, in addition to the time required to obtain a permit.
- The permit is valid for 1 month from the date of entry into the border zone. As an option, it can be extended to 2 months.
- Please note that no refunds are possible in the event of cancellation.

What is a border permit?
Certain border areas are subject to strict regulations governing the movement of people, particularly foreigners. If you wish to visit these areas, it is essential to apply for a permit in advance.
There are five restricted zones.
- Chuy region: Chong-Kemin valley
- Issyk-Kul region: Karkyra, Sary-Jaz, Engilchek, Khan-Tengri national park, Sarychat-Ertash reserve, Ak-Shyrak and Karasay checkpoint
- Naryn region: Ak Say valley, Kol-Suu lake, Kok-Kiya canyon, Chatyr-Kul lake and Torugart checkpoint
- Osh region: Trans-Alay range (Lenin peak)
- Batken region: Kadamjai, Leylek and Batken districts
You can order a permit for one or more zones. For simplicity, we have decided to sell only a 5-zone border permit. Please note that the districts of Leylek and Batken are not included.

How far in advance do I need to order the border permit?
The permit process takes 9 working days. Please note that weekends and public holidays must be deducted from working days, as the administration is closed. Please check the dates of public holidays by clicking here. You can order your permit up to 2 months in advance. This means that the permit will be available for up to 2 months at the Salut Hotel reception desk.
How do I choose when to enter the border zone?
If you’re not sure when you’ll be entering the border zone, don’t worry. The permit is valid for 1 month (or 2 months, depending on the option chosen) from the date you select. You can enter the border zone at any time during the validity of your permit.
Is payment secure?
Payment is only possible online and in euros. Payment is secured via Stripe (VISA or MASTERCARD) or Paypal.
Where can I get my border permit?
By default, permits are delivered to the Salut Hotel reception in Bishkek. This is a trusted address, they are open 24/7.
With the “Other delivery address” option and for an additional €15, you can have the permit delivered to another address in Bishkek or another city in Kyrgyzstan (Karakol, Kochkor, Naryn or Osh). Allow 2 working days for delivery in addition to the time required to produce the permit. It is your responsibility to find a reliable address (guesthouse, travel agency, etc.). Please note that in the event of an error in the delivery address, there will be no refund.
If you’re arriving from Tajikistan, the nearest town to pick up your border permits is Osh. The permit cannot be delivered to Sary Tash or Sary Mogol.
It is not possible to have the permit delivered outside Kyrgyzstan.
How long is the border permit valid?
The permit is valid for 1 month (from the date of entry into the border zone). As an option, you can increase the duration to 2 months. It costs €5 per permit.
When will my border permit be ready?
As soon as your permit is ready, you’ll receive a confirmation e-mail and can pick it up at the Salut hotel in Bishkek or at the delivery address you’ve specified. Once you’ve obtained your permit, keep the original and make several copies, as you’ll need to leave one at each military checkpoint. You can make photocopies in one of the many print shops in downtown Bishkek. Your passport will also be required for verification at each checkpoint. Check that your name and passport number are correct on the permit.
What are the cancellation conditions?
In the event of cancellation (for whatever reason), no refund is possible.
Do I need a border permit to enter or leave Kyrgyzstan overland?
The border permit sold on this page allows you to visit restricted areas near the borders with China, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DOES IT GIVE YOU THE RIGHT TO CROSS A BORDER. Border crossing formalities are regularly updated here. Please check with your embassy, depending on your nationality.
If you wish to cross the Kyzyl Art border crossing between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, without visiting restricted zone 4 (see map), then you do not need a border permit. However, you will need a GBAO permit and a special authorization.
If you wish to cross the Torugart border post between Kyrgyzstan and China, a border permit is required in the direction Kyrgyzstan –> China.
Is a border permit mandatory for children?
Yes, a border permit is mandatory for children of all ages.

At the pick-up of the permit, we noticed that my name was misspelled on the permit. The lady at the reception of Salut Hotel said that it was not a problem. But due to earler experience in China, we requested a change and this was arranged in just one hour by Anna. Splendid.

Bonjour Olivia, merci de prendre des nouvelles pour savoir si nous avons récupéré notre permis frontalier. Sans problème nous l’avons récupéré au Salut hôtel Où nous avons passé la première nuit. Très bonne réception chambre propre. Aucun problème. Nous avons aussi récupéré le Toyota loué à Almaz. nous avons déjà sillonné sur les pistes 6,7 et 8. Quelques modifications que j’ai notées suite à d’importantes pluie. Des passages à Gué en plus. Je te ferai part de toutes les modifications à mon retour. Nous restons ici un mois entier.

Everything went good. Hotel Salut is a small Hotel, but the reception had all our 5 permits on our arrival. On our request, they Even printed some copies for us for all the checkpoints for free. Very good service.
